31st January
Today Elliott and Daddy went to the shoe shop to have Elliott measured for his first shoes. As usual Markie had quite a lot of opinions on how they should look and feel. because they were first shows, predominantly for crawling to first steps, they needed to be from a select range.
The choice came down to three, two of the same pattern in different colours and one of a different design. There were four in Elliott’s show size – he is a 2.5G on one foot and a 3G on the other so the shoes had to be 3Gs (yes he is a phone network, or a big foot), but the dinosaur ones were rejected for being a horrid shade of blue.
The blue shoes of one of the styles was rejected as I dislike the idea that boys always have blue things, and anyway the blue wasn’t striking enough, too muted.
From the two remaining choices I ditched the Pirate shoes. Okay, I know, pirates are cool, however I wasn’t that impressed with the pirate depiction on the side, the image wasn’t very rich and the bird looked huge and scary for a child to have on a shoulder, he could lose an eye.
But it was still pirates, and pirates are cool. However on closer examination and comparison the pirate shoes had other issues. They were bulkier and had a taller heel, which considering Elliott is stil crawling would cause issue with his foot when stretched, the lower shoe with the gentle curved heel felt softer and much better.
The lower shoe also came in a glorious autumnal red, somewhere between scarlet and maroon with just the hint of a deep pink (if we were mixing pigments to get the shade). It really grabbed me and I think will suit a wider range of clothes and outfits.
Anyway, here’s the pictures:
